About Us

The Archives Department is responsible for the collection, arrangement, and cataloging of archive public records.

  • We disperse information of these records to the public and county personnel.
  • We assist researchers from all over the country, in person, by mail, or by telephone.
  • We supervise security of Archive material, mainly by making certain that records are handled with care, and are not taken off the premises.

Tina Jeffries - Department Head

The plan for the Bartholomew County Archives was put forth by the County Commissioners in office in 1980. They were Marvin Finke, Bill Davis, and Ray Marr Jr. Bartholomew County's oldest documents were rescued from the 4th floor of the Bartholomew County Courthouse and put in a more appropriate setting. The Archives was dedicated on November 18, 1988 and is located on the first floor of the Bartholomew County Courthouse.

Some areas of search include marriage, deeds, tax records, cemeteries, civil, etc. We offer tours to area schools and welcome all to come and learn more of the history of Bartholomew County. Come in and see the photo of General Joseph Bartholomew, for whom the county is named; learn the history of the Courthouse, see the original bell, and search data as far back as the 1800's. Please call Tina Jeffries @ 379-1503 or 379-1515 for more information.
