About Us

The Bartholomew County Emergency Operations Center was established in 2001 at 131 South Cherry Street, Columbus, Indiana 47201. The Center houses the E911 Dispatch Center and the Office of Emergency Preparedness. The dispatch facility, located in the storm proof basement utilizes the latest equipment available to provide emergency services to all of Bartholomew County and the City of Columbus. The ground level houses the Office of Emergency Management and administrative offices for E911. The center is equipped with a 180 foot communications tower and a back-up generator system.

The E911 center dispatches for Columbus Police Department, Bartholomew County Sheriff, Columbus Fire Department, Hope Police Department, Clifford Town Marshal, Hartsville Town Marshal, Elizabethtown Town Marshal, Jonesville Town Marshal, and Indiana Department of Conservation Officers assigned to Bartholomew County. The center also dispatches for Columbus Township Volunteer Fire Department, German Township Volunteer Fire Department, Hope Volunteer Fire Department, Clifford Volunteer Fire Department, Harrison Township Volunteer Department, Clay Township Volunteer Fire Department, Elizabethtown Volunteer Fire Department, Southwest Volunteer Fire Department, Jonesville Volunteer Fire Department, and Hartsville Volunteer Fire Department. In addition to the police and fire departments the center also provides dispatch services for Columbus Fire Medic 1, Hope Squad 15 Ambulance, and German Township Ambulance 89. The center dispatches Columbus Regional Hospital Ambulance Service as backup for Columbus Medic 1.

The center also answers all calls for Bartholomew County Animal Control. The calls are then forwarded to the animal control officer for action.

The center has an annual budget of approximately 1.2 million dollars. The majority of the budget is funded through 911 surcharges.

All personnel are certified in the Basic Telecommunicator Course, Emergency Medical Dispatch Course, First Aid, CPR, Automatic External Deliberator, and the Indiana Data and Communications System (IDACS/NCIC).
