Gray and the Bartholomew County Surveyor’s Office were presented with a special award on October 6, 1988 by the National Society of Professional Surveyors and the American Congress on Surveying and Mapping. The award was in recognition of 100% perpetuation of original U.S.P.L.S.S. corners. Bartholomew, at the time, was the only county in the State of Indiana to accomplish this task, and one of only six counties in the United States. President's Award Bartholomew County was recognized in 1994 for its commitment to the preservation of the U.S.P.L.S.S. The County Surveyor’s Association of Indiana presented the county with the President’s Award. Milestone Reached On December 20, 2005, the Bartholomew County Surveyor’s Office officially filed the tie card for the last unmarked center section corner in the county. Based on information available at this time, they are the first county in Indiana to achieve this. With this new accomplishment they can guarantee that a private land surveyor who needs to tie into an established corner in Bartholomew County is never more than ½-mile away from one.
