Columbus Township covers the area of all the city limits of Columbus to 400N and 300S, Talley Road to the East including the junction of State Road 7 and US 31, and West to 400W. REAL ESTATE: We collect necessary data from new construction and remodeling to properly assess all real estate in Columbus Township. This includes, taking exterior measurements, both interior and exterior inspection, and photographing the property. Data is entered, and an assessment of your property is arrived at by square footage and special features priced from State mandated guidelines. Land values are approved by the State and are included in your assessed value. A notice is mailed to the property owner of any change that is made. The Columbus Township Assessor's Office handles concerns of questionable assessments. An inspection of the property will be made and proper paperwork will be processed if necessary, including hearings. We also handle sales disclosures which are public information. BUSINESS PERSONAL PROPERTY: We handle business personal property. We maintain a current list of all businesses. Our office provides current forms for filing of business assessments. However, as a courtesy to local taxpayers, forms are mailed out before March 1st. They must be returned on or before May 15th to avoid any penalties. INDIVIDUAL PERSONAL PROPERTY: This includes mobile homes not on fixed real estate, which are assessed as of January 15th.
